This is a photo of a dress made out of recycled materials in the Eden Project. Surf at Perranporth. Sue.

Taken on Abereiddy beach ,and shows a remain of old slate mining that was the trade here ,in the rocks is a most beautiful pool known as the Blue Lagoon ,over the top of the cliff is a railway which was used to transport slate to the next port of Porthgain where it was loaded onto ships, the sand is very dark on the beach from the slate cliffs this is on the Pembrokeshire coast path. Marie.

Dear Mr. Farmer, Just in case anyone had thought of a visit to the Isles of Scilly, but not actually gone…..here are a couple of photos! These were scanned in, so not brilliant quality!
Regards, Julia.

This was taken at 5.20pm Saturday . I think the red really shows up against the blue. Elsie.

Tonight we have left Lady in a different stable block that what Willow is in. Willow is a bit restless, so we will need to keep an eye on her. This is nearly the final stage of weaning her. Up to now it has gone reasonably well and we have managed to wean Willow with the minimum of stress. We have got to keep Lady and Willow completely apart for a couple of days we should then be able to put Willow and Gypsy in the area next to the Sheep.

The Ram wasn’t to good this morning. When I went to feed the Sheep he was reluctant to get up. We helped him to his feet and after a short while he started to eat the hay with the others. He is quite old for a Sheep. In normal circumstance in a flock, he would have been culled a good time ago. This afternoon I let him out of the Sheep pen and on to the grass behind. He had a good munch on the grass, when he had eaten as much as he wanted he tried to put his head through the pen to try to get back with the rest of the Sheep. His horns stopped him from getting much more than his nose in to the pen. I wouldn’t like to guess how long he will live for. As long as he doesn’t look in any pain or distress I will let him carry on as he is. I was going to run another cable so that I could put the Sheep webcam on. I couldn’t find the time to do it today.

We managed to get a much better picture of Saturn last night. It took a bit of doing trying to focus the Telescope on the Planet. The atmosphere didn’t help. After speaking to an amateur astronomer who had seen the website last night, he thought that we could not have got it very much better. The rings are very close to the planet and he thought that we were lucky to have seen any gap in between the Planet and the rings. Tonight I am going to try to show the Moon for a little while before I show Saturn again. When I change over it may take me a while to focus Saturn again.

Just thought if anyone missed Saturn I will gladly email them the capture shots that I took last night. Elaine.

Blond Beauty Breeze – such a COOL look! Julia.

This was taken at Pickering Steam Rally. Sue.

Lower harbour at Fishguard very quaint cottages surround half of the harbour ,i can sit here for hours and enjoy the scenery and peace, well worth finding to visit , Marie.

A picture of the GEEP, strange eh. Elsie.

The Sky is a bit iffy at the moment. If the cloud lifts a little I will put Saturn on the webcam from about 8.pm. tonight. Just before I turned the webcam off last night I went through the menu of the camera that I was using to show Saturn. There were a couple of adjustments that I was able to do that made the picture a lot better. It was looking more like Saturn than what Elaine’s capture shot looked. We managed to get rid of the glare, that made the rings of Saturn look separate from the Planet. If I manage to get the webcam on you may see the picture change as I try to get a better picture. Elaine I am not complaining about your photograph. I am pleased that I have the photograph of the first time Mars was shown live on the Internet.

The equipment for the Griffon Vulture webcam should have been installed by now, except that the parcel that I sent to Spain has not arrived. I sent the parcel two weeks ago tomorrow, on what was meant to be a five day track-able service. When I tried to track it on Parcel Forces website, I was told that the parcel was not track-able.

This Ewe would come up for a “chat” every time I approached the pen. A real little sweetie! Julia.

A waterfall inside one of the domes at the Eden Project. Sue.

Emmi, getting near the time.

I thought that you may like to see Emmi a little before she is due to Foal. As I said in last night Diary she is very big. Over the past couple of days we have noticed the bulge moving to her rear. The other photograph is of Emmi’s udder, it has also in the past few days started to get larger. Both are signs that she is getting ready to have her Foal. On checking the dates the Foal is due on the 1st of March.

Tonight the Sky is the clearest that it has been for a very long while, so we are hoping to be able to show Saturn as we did last night on the webcams. Going by last night we should be able to see the Planet at about 8.30pm. Showing Saturn real-time live on the webcams, as we did last night was the first time that it has ever been done.

We have had to fit a different type of camera on to the Telescope to that what we would normally use. It brings it a lot closer. Focusing the Telescope took a long time. I must admit that I nearly didn’t bother showing it at all. Once it was focused on Saturn it was worth doing. It was a bit hazy last night, that caused the picture to seem to be going in and out of focus, and I also needed to adjust the the Telescope to keep Saturn in view. At about 11.30pm the sky clouded over and Saturn was lost for the night. I am hoping that there is a part that I will be able to get to help with the fine focusing that the Telescope needs.

At times the rings of Saturn seemed to be attached to the Planet, that is nothing to do with what we are doing, It is how it looks at this time of the year, although we did see little gaps from time to time when there was no haze obstructing the view, then I don’t think that we could have got a better image.

I don’t know what the weather forecast is, but when the sky is clear we will continue showing Saturn. When I fed the Badgers tonight I saw the first crescent of the New Moon. It is not visible for very long, and would have meant a lot of time setting the Telescope for the Moon, to then an hour later to set it back for Saturn. When the Moon is visable for longer I will show the Moon and Saturn on alternative days.

This just shows how big The Eden Project is when you see the people near the domes Sue.

Glastonbury Tor.Somerset. We like to try and do this walk once a year, as a bit of a challenge!! Rose W’canton.

For a few days we have moved Lady back to her original stable, so that Willow can start to get use to Lady not being in the next to her. Emmi is next to Willow and Gypsy. I would rather Emmi be in Lady’s stable as the camera is not in a very good position to watch her. Willow panicked a little. She soon settled down with Gypsy being in with her. We would have had a lot more problems if we hadn’t had Gypsy for Willow to be with, after Woody not having a Foal. Again Lady has not been at all bothered.

The weather has been so good, with a warm Sun that we were able to take the Horses rugs off for the whole day. They are taken off every couple of days when they are given a quick brush over and then put on as it has been cold. With the rugs being off for most of the day it tends to make us take more notice of their condition. Emmi is very big with Lady not far behind in size. Looking at them you wonder just how big the Foal they are carrying will be. If we stand by the Mares we can very often see their bellies moving when the Foal’s move about inside them.

The young Mare that we left in Ireland when we got Emmi and Gypsy, should be going to the Stallion from the end of next week. If she is covered successfully we will get a early Foal in 2009. We have got to hope that she does not Foal in 2008. I would not have taken the chance of mating an older Mare this early in the season, but Maidens are normally a week or two late on their Foaling date. We are using a Stallion called Clodovil that is very popular at the moment. Our Mares Sire was a Horse called Royal Academy. A Clodovil and Royal Academy have been successful match in the past, so with a bit of luck we may get it right. The Mare will be scanned to see if she is in Foal after about twenty one days, if she is she will be coming to Denbury, If not she will go back to the Stallion.

Hello Mr. Farmer, Here is a photo from Denbury!! Ewey, up in the field, all alone – perhaps she should be renamed Greta Garbo! “I want to be alone” Julia.

Concorde taking off at Leeds Bradford Airport. There used to be hundreds there to see it and it used to go over the top of our house. Elsie.

Just a quick update on Bliss and Misty after speaking to their Trainer this afternoon, as I have a lot on tonight. Both are still doing very well. Cantering side by side with other Horses. A couple of weeks back Bliss was having a few tantrums. Throwing her head about whilst being ridden. She is growing up and it is just her feeling her feet to see what she can get away with. She tried it on here when she was being broken. She stopped it after a few days and got back to her self. I don’t mind seeing this in a Horse, it shows spirit. The Trainer went and purchased himself a posh camera this week. He has promised to send me a few photographs of Bliss and Misty next week.

Mr Farmer, Elaine asked for this so could you either send it on to her or put in the forum. Regards, Elsie.

MISS ME

MISS ME BUT LET ME GO
WHEN I COME TO THE END OF THE ROAD
AND THE SUN HAS SET FOR ME
I WANT NO RITES IN A GLOOM FILLED ROOM
WHY CRY FOR A SOUL SET FREE?
MISS ME A LITTLE BUT NOT FOR LONG AND
NOT WITH YOUR HEAD BOWED LOW
REMEMBER THE LOVE THAT ONCE WE SHARED
MISS ME BUT LET ME GO.

FOR THIS A JOURNEY WE ALL MUST TAKE
AND EACH MUST GO ALONE.

The Contractor came today to cut away the bramble to reveal the Old Stone Wall that we are wondering might be the remains of an Old Water Mill. It is puzzling me more now that it has been revealed than it did before. As you can see in the photograph on the Photo page it looks as if it is just a wall, but there is no reason for it to be there. We still have a lot to reveal properly. To the left of the wall you can see, is as much again covered by Ivy. It looks as if it might go down to the stream that is just out of sight under the wall. It could even be a continuation of the Bridge that our driveway goes across, but the direction the wall takes would suggest there was an opening in the hedge to the small field that you can see behind the Sheep. I made an entrance to the field very near the wall when we first came to Denbury. We had to take away about ten foot of the hedgerow to make the entrance. The hedgerow is ancient as are most, probably many hundred of years old, so a stone wall would have been pointless. It would also suggest that the Farm driveway once took a different direction. But again the hedgerow tell you no, as do the layout of the fields either side of the driveway. It is a bit of a mystery. We should finish revealing it by tomorrow. We then may know a little more.

The weaning of Willow is going very well. She has only been away from Lady for about a day and a half, and already Lady is keeping Willow away from her. When we stabled Lady next to Willow and Gypsy tonight, Willow went over to the wall where Lady is. Lady was not interested at all. Ears back, teeth showing she made a lunged at Willow, as if to say I have had enough of you. Trouble with Lady is that she is a very good Mother. As much as she doesn’t want Willow suckling, she puts up with it. I may try to put Lady back into her old stable for a couple of days to see if Willow stresses out. If she doesn’t I should think we will be able to put Willow and Gypsy in the area next to the Sheep by next Monday.

The Badger with the limp had a quick feed just after 6.30pm. It is eating alright, and moving about without a lot of trouble. I followed it down to the lower feeding place. Just before it disappeared into the cover. It will be in for a bit of a shock, as the rest will, as when the Contractor was here today we got him to trim a lot of the bramble that hides the Sett. There is still ample there as to not give away the Setts where abouts. Enough though to tidy the area.

Most of you know i am a pushover for squirrels but my friend in Australia can go one better. She rescues orphan kangaroos. This is one of them with her dog Winston he is an Australian cattle dog. Red admiral butterfly in Pembrokeshire. Lynne.

A Llama with its baby. Yorkshire Show. Taken at Yorkshire Show, take notice of the size of the cattles horns. Sea Gulls sitting waiting at Portsmouth. Elsie.

We haven’t shown the Sheep for a few days as the cable we used to show them, is also the cable for our Holiday Cottages that have live webcam images relayed to them. We are putting in a new cable over the next couple of days so that we can show the Sheep as we did before.

As you will see today we have taken Willow away from Lady, we hope this time it will work. Willow has been out with Gypsy during the day and stabled with Lady of a night. Willow has been trying to suckle Lady. It has been a bit of battle between them. Lady sometimes throwing out her hind legs threatening to give Willow a kick. Willow keeps persevering and manages to get a little milk until Lady decides to stop her.

We have put Willow and Gypsy in the stable that we have enlarged for the Mares when they have Foaled. Lady is in the next stable to them, in what was Woody’s old stable, and Emmi is in Lady’s stable. When we first changed them over Willow was stressing out a little, but nothing like the first time. Lady wasn’t bothered at at. She seemed more concerned about keeping Gypsy away from the stables parting wall. Willow seems to have settled now. She keeps going over to Lady’s stable to make sure that she is still there. We will keep to these stable arrangements for a couple of weeks. We will then try to put Willow and Gypsy into the area in the barn next to the Sheep.

We have put Emmi in Lady’s Stable so that she can settle in the Foaling stable, as her udder has started to get larger, a sign that her Foal is not far away. She is a young Mare so her udder will not get over large as Lady’s and Woody’s did, so it is important that we check her every day. The Foal is due within two to three weeks. As you know Mares can Foal early, and very late as Lady did last year. I will change the cameras over so that you can see the Sheep, Gypsy and Willow and Emmi. If I see that the Foaling is imminent, I will put it on the Forum.

The Close Season for the Pheasants Shooting started on the 1st of February, the last day being the 1st of October. For those who have not heard of it, it is the time of year when it is illegal to Shoot Pheasants. I cant imagine that the law was passed for any other reason other than to allow the Pheasants to produce their young so that they can be shot next year. There are Close Seasons for most Game Birds. Probably the best known are the Grouse. The Close season for those start on the 10th of December and finishes on the 12th of August. Hence the phrase the Glorious Twelfth.

There must have been a few people around our area who forgot or ignored the Law. I must admit I thought that it was today the 4th. I don’t know why that date stuck in my mind. I hope it wasn’t important. To late now anyway. If I have known for sure of the date, I would have had the shooting stopped. Any person who shoots Pheasant would have known the dates of the Close Season. If they didn’t they should not be allowed a gun. We heard shooting on the 1st 2nd and yesterday. The Police will prosecute any person found shooting Game Birds in their respective Close Season. Different Game Birds have different Close seasons.

I am still at a loss to understand why hunting with dogs was banned and not Game Shooting. As I have said before I believe that shooting is by far a more cruel activity, than what was banned. I recently was in a conversation with a person who has a Pheasant Shoot. I have told him my feelings about the Sport. I like or love my Pheasant Shooting he told me. Why I cant imagine. You don’t need to be an expert shot to shoot a Pheasant. You would be an extremely bad shot if you missed one, especially as Beaters push the Pheasants in to the Guns, and with the wide spread of the shot from the shotguns cartridges. That is why so many Pheasants are injured rather than being killed outright, by the inexperienced people on Corporate perk day outings and the wannabe big game shooters.

This is an old cider press, look at the back of the press ,at the stone wheel any ideas as to what it may have been used for in that position
An old stone cider jar can be seen in the window i have one i use as a door stop !!! Marie.

The Mill Wheel could well be part of some thing used in the making of Cider. Maybe something to crush the apples with before putting them into the press. Attached to the Farm House was a Barn that we converted in to a Annex. In it we found a beam of a Cider Press. And of course we do have a Cider Apple Orchard. A friend of mine did make Cider and I use to go to his Farm to collect Cider or Scrumpy as it is known in Somerset, and probably every where in the world now. I cant remember anything that looked like that when I went to his Farm. Mind you I wasn’t looking for anything other than the cider. I cant asked him about it either, as he died a couple of years back. But I will make enquiries.

Thinking about it I don’t know why I ever drank the Scrumpy. It was what they called rough, and that was the truest name it could be called, by taste and look. Inevitably the cider had bits in it, apple and what ever else doesn’t bear thinking about. On the Queens Jubilee our street in London had a Street Party. A few of us decided on a Barrel of Scrumpy would be a great addition to the festivities. So I drove with one of my friends the 370 miles round trip to Johns Farm, to get a Barrel of his Cider. We did the journey on a Sunday, so the roads were reasonably quite, but somehow we managed the journey door to door with over an hours stay, having lunch with John and his Wife in five Hours.

A barrel was a lot of Cider to drink between the few of us who contributed to the cost of it, so it was offered to others in the Street Party. I cant remember any one who drank the Scrumpy who didn’t show even the slightest sign of distress when they tried it. Some even came back for more, and all said they liked it. They lied, it must have been the other drink that they had consumed that made it acceptable. It could well have been the Scrumpy that turned the Street Party into one big punch up, for it was a potent Scrumpy.

I have decided that as my Lad and myself have been scratched from top to bottom and have numerous thorn blisters from the bramble, that we will take the fence down that runs by the side of the bramble and get our Contractor to cut it back with his hedge trimmer. The Contractor cant get here until Wednesday, but it will be a lot faster and for sure a lot less painful.
