Starting from number one there are five new photographs on the photo page.

In town and cities all over this Country there are Children, the old and disabled who live in flats and houses with no gardens and no opportunities to experience wildlife other than in communal parks. Some with ponds and lakes that attract wildlife and wildfowl. For some children feeding the wildfowl is there first and only opportunity in their childhood to interact with wildlife. What signals about wildlife are being given out to children when told no no you must not feed the ducks, swans, geese and wildfowl or mummy will be fined lots of money for letting you do what children have done for ever. Money that they cant afford or deserve to have taken for being a good parent.

I see ponds and lakes in parks as areas to attract wildlife and for leisure and enjoyment of all, with the facilities any particular park offers. Feeding the wildfowl comes into that category. Of course it would be better to feed wheat and flaked maze if you are able to source it, or for some afford the cost, but I have never seen ducks floating with their legs in the air because they have been given bread. Or have I seen many overfed ducks become so large and bloated they can hardly walk, that can be said to be in that condition because of being give bread. Animals like human come in a shapes and sizes. Being large is not always caused by unhealthy diets.

As for feeding the ducks being a dubious pastime, and that children only enjoy it because adults teach them. Adults teach most that children learn including how to enjoy themselves. Taking them to feed the ducks is not dubious. Some people may not agree with it. I experienced the delight and enjoyment of a child feeding the wildfowl at Denbury when I went to feed the Geese and their Goslings on the Lake earlier this year. I will never forget his face when he kept looking up at me showing his enjoyment.

As for our local park is a far more pleasant place since duck bread was banned as there is no longer a risk of slipping on unsightly rank leftovers. If you look where you are going and side step any of the small amount of bread that may be left, you wont slip over. Better still instead of councils giving employees pens to write out fines for those in the parks that they pay for out of their council tax, give them a broom.

I feed and allow those visiting Denbury to feed our wildfowl and Swans bread. Our wildfowl as those in communal parks are able to eat grass or water weed on the banks or bottom of the lakes.

There are to many council and government Jobs Worth’s spoiling this country with unnecessary new laws, rules and regulation that they were not elected to pass.

Late night again after collecting the Geese Will do photographs…

Late night again after collecting the Geese. Will do photographs including the Geese tomorrow.

One Family of Holiday Guests this week are from Wales. Seven altogether, five being Children. Other than the teenage Daughter all of the the other four have been helping us around the Farm. They must be enjoying it as they are getting up early to help with the mucking out and are with us for most of the day. We have needed to muck out a very dirty stable for the Geese to be housed in that we are collecting this evening. It has taken ten trailer loads of wet and very heavy muck to clear the Stable. All of the Children have helped. Mum also got stuck in. The job did take less time with the help that they all gave. The best bit being is that they all enjoyed it, especially the ride on the quad to the muck heap.

Joseph came out with a couple of funny remarks. He calls the Quad and Trailer the Poo Chariot. The best one though being that the smell of the muck cleared his nasal cavities. Every time I remember the remark I cant help but laugh. He is a funny Lad. All the Children are very good to be with. The youngest are twin Girls that I am having a little difficulty understanding their Welsh accent. The older boy Callum did work hard helping with the Stable. I reckon that they will all sleep well tonight.

There are five new photographs on the Photo page, starting from number eleven. Getting low on photographs again, because of from tomorrow I will only be able to put three new photographs on the Photo page each day.

Charlestown Harbour near St Austell in Cornwall. CH.

Maze at Longleat. Bec.

The Barn Owl Trust nest webcam computer developed a fault last night. I believe that it had to be replaced today. It was a bit of a journey back to Cornwall for the Trust to fix the problem, but it was worth the trouble to see the Nesting Barn Owls. There are many reasons for the webcams to stop working. Believe me none of us in the main would want them not to be broadcasting. I get a few problems with my broadband connection temporally going down for a few seconds. Then the webcam broadcasting point have to be restarted. Another problem that occurs is that a broadband connection is slow making the webcam to stop. Cameras also breakdown. The worse one I had was last year when my Denbury Farm URL address got lost in the system and my website could not be accessed for nearly two weeks. Although it was nothing to do with me, I had to pay for it to be found.

We have started to knock down the Tree House in the main Horse field. It was put up nearly fifteen years ago. My two Lads when aged about seven wanted a Tree House, but were frightened for it to be in the Woods, so we built one for them up at the top of the hill in the field. They only ever used it once to sleep in, and that was when our friends stayed in it with the Lads.

We are going to rebuild the Tree House come Wildlife Watching hide, as last year a number of our Holiday Guest especially Children said that they would have liked to have used it. Arnie had made it to dangerous for it to be used. When it is hot he stands under the Tree House, but every time he put his head up he would cause a little bit of damage. The little bits have now become major. The rebuild is going to make the Tree House usable again, so that it can be used by our Holiday Guest or their Children, as a Wild Life Watching hide, or just for an adventure for the Children.

We went to Minehead this evening for our Fish and…

We went to Minehead this evening for our Fish and Chip. Because the weather forecast was for a sunny warm day, we decided last night that we were going today. Guess what, those overpaid useless forecasters got it wrong again, actually I think it should be as usual instead of again. The best part of it is that we pay for them to get it wrong. Today instead of being sunny it has been overcast all day. They got it wrong a couple of days ago, they blamed it on thin cloud. What do they mean by thin cloud. Clouds, cloud, with satellite unless you are looking in the wrong place you cant miss it. Any way thins cloud is a new one on me. It did start spitting a few drops of rain as well, that wasn’t forecast either, our small bales of hay are still in the field.

At least it was quite warm at Minehead. The Fish and Chips were good, and and we got there a little earlier today than we normally do, so we had a little time to mooch around. We parked on the Harbour. Whilst eating a few men came with their speedboat and water ski’s. The water looked a bit to cold to be standing in, but one of the men was nearly chest high in the water. Cant imagine the wetsuits that they use can keep them that warm in the water. Anyway we had a good view of them starting off. That looked a bit hairy with the speed that they need to get started. Love to try it, but maybe not so fast.

Walking around the harbour, we came across three children with their parents. they were all fishing with hand lines. For crabs they told us. I suppose that their ages where about nineish. They were fishing from the steps that go from the top of the harbour to beach below. It is very high and the tide was coming in. Minehead is in the Bristol Channel, the second highest tide in the world, with very strong currents. About a month back a fifteen year old was Tomb Stoning off of the very same harbour in the same conditions as this evening. The poor lad got swept under the water with the current, and lost his life. A fisherman a couple of weeks back who we know, showed us where the Lad was found, just feet from the Harbour Wall. So I must admit it was a worry watching the children trying to catch the crabs, but I am sure that their parents were looking out for them, and they did look local. One Lass not with the family, pulled out a net in the shape of a bowls, she must have have over ten in the net. The three children with their hand lines caught one each just after the girl. Their parents were helping them get the crabs off of the bait, one fell onto the Lad, did he scream, that it was so close to getting on him. We did laugh, and I had to jokingly call him a wuss. He laughed him self.

We also spoke to a couple of locals, who were fishing off of the Harbour Wall. By all account they can catch a good variety of fish. Cod, Whiting, Pollock, Ray and a lot more than I cannot remember. Tongue in cheek I asked if they ate what they caught, for I must admit I would not be to keen to eat any thing from the Bristol Channel, they do, mind you they didn’t look to bad for it.

It didn’t finish there, for as we were leaving the Life Boats where starting to do their practice, We couldn’t stay and watch it all or we would not have got back in time to feed the Badgers. What we did see was very good. It turned out to be a very good evening. Well little things please little minds.
