Each year my wife and I have the opportunity to watch house finches nest in our Boston ferns on the front porch. We enjoy their comings / goings and we end up seeing their new family flying off so another couple can build a residence in the same fern.
I would like to have a closer look at these birds and their nest by mounting a webcam right above the fern. However, since we are new to this technology, I do have a few questions that I need help with.
    1. The camera will be position about 2-3 feet away from the nest, will the camera be able to focus properly being that close to the subject?
    2. We have wifi in the house, will I need special software/hardware so as we can watch the activities on our desktop computer or iPad?
    3. Also, could we watch the nest through our TV set with Apple TV?
    4. We have electrical power on the porch, but it would be difficult to access it, are there cameras that use rechargeable batteries?
As you can see, we are neophytes to this technology. Any help would be most appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Jim
