Photo of wild turkeys that have shown up in our back yard over the last week to eat the birdseed that drops to the ground. They are a bit blurry since some nasty children began scaring them into the woods. The children got a right good scolding from my husband and I and hopefully will
not do that again.:-) Marie/NJ

An update from Michael in the Virgin Islands for the new underwater camera.

Things here are going well but slowly. I have received all of the approvals that I need and the mounting bracket for the cam is be
manufactured. I have a company that specializes in underwater welding constructing a lock box for the underwater mounting as to insure the safety of your equipment. That should be completed by Wednesday. The solar power supply has been ordered and we are awaiting delivery as well for the Pelican case that all of the equipment will be mounted inside for protection against the elements at the broadcast point. The network connection is ready on the receiving end.

Here on STX, it is the height of Hurricane season so at times goal accomplishment is a little tough. Many leave the Island for the month of August and some for September too. This just slows down getting things done.

I know this is an inconvenience but I am doing as much, as quickly, and as properly as can be done. I wish it was easier but after 9/11, everything has gotten tougher as far as dealing with the government. With regards, Michael

Why Parents Drink

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was absent but had not phoned in sick one day. Needing to have an urgent problem with one of the main computers resolved, he dialled the employee’s home phone number and was greeted with a child’s whisper. ‘ Hello ? ‘

‘Is your daddy home?’ he asked.

‘ Yes ,’ whispered the small voice.

May I talk with him?’

The child whispered, ‘ No .’

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, ‘Is your Mummy there?’ ‘ Yes ‘

‘May I talk with her?’ Again the small voice whispered, ‘ No ‘

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, ‘Is anybody else there?’

‘ Yes ,’ whispered the child,

‘ a policeman. ‘Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee’s home, the boss asked, ‘May I speak with the policeman?’

‘ No, he’s busy , ‘ whispered the child.

‘ Busy doing what?

‘ Talking to Daddy and Mummy and the Fireman , ‘ came the whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, ‘What is that noise?’

‘ A helicopter ‘ answered the whispering voice.

‘What is going on there?’ demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive. Again, whispering, the child answered,

‘ The search team just landed a helicopter ‘

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, ‘What are they searching for?’

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle…

‘ ME . ‘

Thornton has become unwell this afternoon. We had to go out this morning for a short while when he seemed fine, but when we returned home we found him waiting outside the kitchen door calling out. At first we thought that he was waiting to be fed, but going by his droppings outside the door he was unwell. We have tried to give him a feed but he has not taken it, he just wants to go to his bed in the washroom and lie down. We managed to coax him out for a walk down the Valley, hoping that it would help buck him up. It didn’t achieve that, as he went straight back to his bed when he got back to the Farmhouse. We have managed to give him some glucose in warm water. He wouldn’t take it by his bottle so we have had to use a syringe to get him to drink it. I can only think that he has eaten something that has not agreed with him. We have have to see how he is over the next few hours, giving him drinks to make sure that he does not dehydrate.

Gordon the Goose arrived from Jack today. Until Thornton became unwell I had hoped to have tried him out on the Lake. There is a bit of wiring to do to get the wireless connection working. The forecast is for rain tomorrow so I am not sure that I will be able to do it tomorrow.

Starting from number one there are five new photographs on the Photo page from Judy.

Braemar Castle . Royal Deeside. Scotland

Red Deer Stag on the shores of Loch Mullardoch. Glen Cannich.

Urquhart castle ruins. Loch Ness. We didn’t see Nessie though.

Old Packhorse Bridge, Carrbridge. Speyside.

The Bullers of Buchan. Near Peterhead Morayshire. The word “Bullers ” is believed to stem from “Boilers” referring to the sea rushing in through the hole and Swirling around or bubbling up in a “Boiler Like ” way. The cliffs were teeming with birdlife, all swooping ,squarking and busy nesting. Judy.

The Geese were all gone this morning. Where I can only guess, as I saw two Goose feathers in an area around the Lake that the Geese would have been unable to get to. How they all managed to have been killed, which I can only assume that they have, I cant understand, in one go by a Fox when they had the whole of Lake to take refuge. There is a very remote chance that they have gone back to where ever that they came from, that I believe was some where in the over grown pond area at the far end of the Lake, but I very much doubt it.

The Kingfisher has been fishing from the branch a few times today. Some time this week we hope to get the time to put in another branch in the Lake in a different area, a bit closer to the Lake bank where it is shallower. The water is always warmer in the shallow places where the smaller Fish will bask in the sun. We may then see the Kingfisher catch a meal.

The new Foal is a friendly chap. Very often when we walk into the stable he will come over. That is the way they should be. We had one a few years back that was a monster. The day after he was born I was checking him over to make sure that every thing was as it should be, when he bucked and double barrelled kicked me. Believe me even at his age it hurt. Until the day he went he had a habit of throwing one out. You dare not push him from behind unless you could get out of his way very quick. It would be easier to move Emmi and the Foal into the next stable when we muck them out. Leaving them in the stable with you gives the Foals more contact with people. On Monday we will move them into the larger stable that we finished a few week back, and if we get a decent day next week we will let them out onto the grass.

I wonder if any of you noticed Ewy grazing with the Deer last night. I was a little surprised and needed to look twice to see if it was what I had seen. She disappeared when a couple of the Deer went into the wood. I wouldn’t be surprised if she hadn’t followed them into the wood. After the way she paired off with Breeze last year, I can see her doing it with the Deer. Unfortunately for Ewy the Deer can travel great distances and jump fences. It could be a bit of a problem for Ewy.

The photograph of the tree lined avenue leading to Windsor Castle reminded me of a great day out I had some years ago. Having a number of Horse Drawn Carriages I knew a few people with the same interest. One of them invited me to Windsor for the Horse Show. The class of competition was for Horse Drawn Park Drags and Road Coaches. They look very similar, the Road Coach would be in livery of the route it would take. The Park Drag being a Private Vehicle.. You would know them by the period programs on television, as maybe Stage Coaches. Picture below avenue photograph of the actual Park Drag Carriage with a Team of Gelderlander Horses.

The class would be judged on the turn out and the way the carriage was being driven. The route taken was around Windsor Great Park, through Windsor and up the tree line Avenue leading to the Castle, as photograph sent in by PM. I had ridden on the Carriage a few times before at County Shows. But the Windsor Castle venue was the best. I could never forget Driving up the Horse Chestnut Tree lined avenue, the Trees were magic.
