This is what we woke up to this morning and yet on Easter Saturday 1987 Harold and I were married and it was a glorious day. Elsie.

When we went to feed the animals this morning another of the Ewes had Lambed. At first we thought that she had had a single Lamb. With a Lamb bleating out non stop we realised that she had given birth to twins. Unfortunately it seems that whilst having the second of the twins, the first had lost its Mother. When we put the Lamb back with the Ewe she rejected it. If I had been able to find the after birth there would have been a reasonable chance that the Ewe would have accepted the Lamb if I had wiped it over the Lamb. I could not find it. There was a little chance that if the Lamb had suckled the Ewe she may have let it feed from her. For most of the day I have been holding the Ewe and letting the lamb feed. Over the day the Ewe has kept pushing the Lamb away. I have bottle fed the Lamb and will carry on doing so, but I don’t know if it has had a colostrum from the Ewe. If the Lamb hasn’t, I don’t rate its chances of surviving very high. I don’t want to take the Lamb completely away from the other Sheep or we will finish up with a pet Sheep, and we don’t want that. The twins were a Ram Lamb and a Ewe Lamb. It is the Ram Lamb that has been rejected.

I am going to have a couple of days off from doing the Diary. I have a lot of Ministry farm paperwork to do, and also would like to try to get the new Lake camera working.

As long as the Lake is not to choppy tomorrow, I will show you the Duck working. I am not sure that I will have the camera going tomorrow. It does work but I need to fix a bit of wiring to get it working on the webcam.

ALL GOING WELL I WILL PUT THE DUCK ON THE LAKE AT ABOUT 12.AM. I WILL NOT IF THE GEESE RETURN.

I would have thought that you may have realized that the sheep with Lambs that have been on are not mine. I have a job looking after the few that I own, let alone that lot. They belong to our neigbour, and are in one his field that is adjacent to Denbury. He kindly gave us his permission for us to show them on our webcams. None of our Sheep are showing any sign of Lambing.

Simon the Photographer who invited us to do the Griffom Vulture Colony Nest Site sent the Photographs of the Sierra Crestalina and the White Village of Casares. Simon lives very close to both. Being a wildlife enthusiast he regularly visits the Mountains to climb to find the nests. As you are looking at the Mountains from the photograph it was taken from Casares, the distance that you can see is about 3 kilometers, that being the distance of the Wireless Radio Connection will be the the broadband connection in Casares.. All the equipment is being powered by Solar Energy.

I have shown you two photographs of Geese on the Photo page, for it could well be that these will be the only Geese that you see at Denbury. For since we put the ramp on the island the Geese that we thought may nest have not returned. We may well have frightened them off when we rowed out in the boat to put the ramp in place.

There are five new photographs on the Photo page, starting from number one. We don’t have a lot more photographs to put on the Photo Page.

Dear Mr Farmer, this was sent to me from my Auntie I don’t know whether there is any way of putting it on the photo page. Alex.

Good grief, what is that line made of?
You won’t believe this!
Thought you might enjoy this.
Ever worry about squirrels getting into your bird feeder? Well, look at this.

Dear Mr. Farmer, Just in case anyone had thought of a visit to the Isles of Scilly, but not actually gone…..here are a couple of photos! These were scanned in, so not brilliant quality!
Regards. Julia.

I was tempted to put Alex’s Bear photographs one a time over the next four day. But it could have spoilt the effect.

The Portland Ram Died today. He found it hard to get up this morning, and It was only me helping him that he got up at all. He was a good age and had lost most of his teeth that caused him not to be eating that well. Once we had got him up this morning I put him out on the grass behind the Sheep pen. He had a few nibbles of the grass and laid down. When I went to check on him an hour later he had died.

There were five Geese on the Lake this morning. Two pairs and a single. One of the pairs flew off. The other three stayed for most of the morning before flying off. I should think that they will return over the next couple of days, if not tomorrow. If they don’t come back in the morning I will get a ramp put up o the island. When the Gosling hatch they are unable to get back on the island as the banks go straight down. A ramp will make it possible to get back on the island of a night time if they want. I don’t really know if they will use it, but will be worth a try. I will have to get on with the remote controlled Duck. I haven’t managed to get time to finish it. I must try to find the time.

We relay the webcams live to our Holiday Cottages. Our Holiday Guest whilst watching the webcams saw a Kingfisher fly in front of the Bird Feeders that are normally on cam two. Has any one else seen them. if you do please let us know. We started putting in new wiring today, to be able to show the the Sheep on the webcams when we have Holiday guests. When the Sheep are out of the pen we will be able to put another webcam on the lake. One new camera that we have I will put on the Bird feeders. The PTZ camera I will try to program it so that it will patrol every ten to fifteen minutes on to the area where the Kingfisher goes.

The equipment for the Griffen Vulture nest webcam arrived in Spain yesterday. As long as Simon does not get any major problems he will start installing it over the next week. it is not in a very good location, needing Simon to do a bit of dangerous climbing.

Hello Mr. Farmer, Here is a photo from Denbury!! Ewey, up in the field, all alone – perhaps she should be renamed Greta Garbo! “I want to be alone” Julia.

St Davids cathedral in Pembrokeshire such a lovely place. Lynne.

This was our pond at 9.00 a m today. Rose W’canton.

A waterfall inside one of the domes at the Eden Project. Sue.

Concorde taking off at Leeds Bradford Airport. There used to be hundreds there to see it and it used to go over the top of our house. Elsie.

Just a quick update on Bliss and Misty after speaking to their Trainer this afternoon, as I have a lot on tonight. Both are still doing very well. Cantering side by side with other Horses. A couple of weeks back Bliss was having a few tantrums. Throwing her head about whilst being ridden. She is growing up and it is just her feeling her feet to see what she can get away with. She tried it on here when she was being broken. She stopped it after a few days and got back to her self. I don’t mind seeing this in a Horse, it shows spirit. The Trainer went and purchased himself a posh camera this week. He has promised to send me a few photographs of Bliss and Misty next week.

Mr Farmer, Elaine asked for this so could you either send it on to her or put in the forum. Regards, Elsie.

MISS ME

MISS ME BUT LET ME GO
WHEN I COME TO THE END OF THE ROAD
AND THE SUN HAS SET FOR ME
I WANT NO RITES IN A GLOOM FILLED ROOM
WHY CRY FOR A SOUL SET FREE?
MISS ME A LITTLE BUT NOT FOR LONG AND
NOT WITH YOUR HEAD BOWED LOW
REMEMBER THE LOVE THAT ONCE WE SHARED
MISS ME BUT LET ME GO.

FOR THIS A JOURNEY WE ALL MUST TAKE
AND EACH MUST GO ALONE.

There will not be a Diary again but I have…

There will not be a Diary again, but I have put on the Photo page five new photographs. I have replaced the first five.

I spoke to The Scottish Wildlife Trust today. Their computer should be working Monday to start broadcasting again.

The first one and third from Gillian. Good Christmas photographs.
I think some other readers may be interested in the picture I took recently of a reindeer’s feet! They are this unusual shape to help them walk on snow [and possibly it aids flying through the night sky too!] It is similar to a camel’s foot, which is, of course designed to walk on sand.
I also enclose one pic of the whole animal! GJ

Second one from Vicky.
Here is a photo of the cheeky squirrel that we have visiting our garden on a daily basis, if the door of our conservatory is open and there are nuts around, he comes in and helps himself. Vicky, Derby.

The fourth one is from Jennie and Roy who had one of Puppies, Whisper.
He is absolutely lovely,
he is coming along nicely with his training he walks to heel and sits and
stays (most of the time when he is told) he started to run away when he was
called to “come” but that is getting better now. (He thought is was a game
mummy running after him all round the field for an hour!!!!!!)
How is Tass (or Ky, whichever one is the pup) getting on? Would love to see some pictures of her and any of the other pups if you have any. Whisper is getting along great and we love him dearly. Best regards Jennie and Roy.

The last one being from Julia. Julia’s discretion is on 18th Diary.

There are only a few more photographs to go on the Photo page. Please send any that you have, any thing festive I will also put on.

I have posted three photographs on the photo page The…

I have posted three photographs on the photo page. The first is of our new Broodmare. The second is of the new Filly Foal, the last being a photograph of an Osprey nest location. I will get more spaces to add more photographs on the photo page. Unless we do with the amount of photographs you are sending in will only be on the photo page for a day. I will try to get the page increased to take twenty photographs, unfortunately the more that are added will take longer to upload.

The new Horses arrived early this morning. They both came off of the Horsebox very calmly. The Broodmare is a seven year old chestnut. She is due to Foal in March. We have put her in the Arnie’s stable, free to walk about in the corral that is in front of the stables. She went to the drinking trough for a long drink and started munching on her hay. She is a nice looking Mare and seems very laid back. Her racing name was Eminent Lady, I haven’t managed to find out what her stable name was, odds on its Lady. She really doesn’t like being stabled. We put her in a stable so that the Filly Foal could have a walk around. For most of the time that she was in the stable she was scrapping and lightly kicking her feet.

The Filly Foal is as we expected, a bit wild. We managed to get her into Breezes stable, but when the Broodmare went out of her site she looked as if she wanted to jump over the stable door, so we had to close the top door. After a while she calmed down and started to eat her hay. After a couple of hours we were able to open the top door, and late this afternoon we went in the stable with her. She was very good, so we let her walk around the corral. She is going to need a lot of handling and fuss made of her. Being only weaned for a couple of days she will be completely lost and frightened. She would not have had much human contact, probably looking buy her coat, she has only just come in off of the field for the first time since she was born. She will soon get over it, especially with all of the other Horses calling out in excitement and anticipation of the new arrivals. The Farm is a little noisy. I was able to give her a good look over when she was walking around the yard. My first impression is that she looks a very good type. Large rear end, wide chest and big boned, and by the look of it the only feed she has had is her Mothers milk and grass. We put feed in front of her but she didn’t seem to know what it is, she will soon learn and like the feed. Over the next days we will handle the filly so that we can tidy her up and get a rug on her. We have decided that her stable name will be Gypsy. If she was to be good enough to race, it will not be her racing name, that will be Willows.

The scenery photograph is off an Osprey nest site in Delaware, USA. We have been asked to advise and supply the equipment for webcams at the site. When I first looked at the photograph the nest seemed out of place, no doubt because it being the complete opposite to the Lock of the Lowe’s natural surroundings and the nest being in a tree. A lot of the nest sites in the UK are on artificial platform nests as the Delaware site, but in remote locations. After looking at the photograph a few times, I am getting to like the location, it looks very busy with the houses, boats and the Geese swimming under the nest. The photograph was taken by Peters my contact in Delaware, from his veranda that over looks the site.

It was good to see a pair of little Grebe on the lake this morning. Cant say I was best pleased when one of them came up from under the water, after diving, with one of my fish in it mouth.
