Sorry didn’t finish our work until late so I will be unable to put any photograph on.

Four of the Geese were missing. After an hour of looking for them we finally found then by the small Pond where they must have been pushed along the drive by a vehicle leaving the Farm.

The Good news is that Ewy with her two Lambs appeared from no where this evening.

Starting from number eleven there are five new photographs on the Photo Page sent in by Margaret of her stay at Denbury.

Me with Thornton.

Me feeling quite scared as can be seen from my face.

Breeze.

Arnie.

Dunster Castle.

Karen has asked to see a photograph of our Antique Gates that we are putting up at the entrance of our Driveway. The Gate Posts and railings are in place. As we are having the gates electrically operated they will need to have a couple of brackets welded on to the gates so that we can fit the mechanism. That is going to be done this Saturday. Whilst that welding is being done we are going to have the hinges welded so that it will be difficult to remove the gates. They would be worth a few pence in scrap value as they are so heavy. I would not like to lose them so they will not be hung on the Posts until then. When I say heavy, believe me they really are. Even my Lads and myself struggle to lift them, They would still be difficult to lift with four men. When they are hung I will put a photograph on the Photo Page.

The Pennywell Farm Reindeer surprisenly have not been that friendly since they have been here. I thought that as they were in an open Farm they would be very easy to get on with. On the contrary until today neither had come very close to us. This afternoon we managed to get one of then to come close to feed from a feed scoop, the other female is very wary. Other than Padfoot she chases all of the other Reindeer away from the feed troughs, not allowing any of the other Reindeer to have any feed until she has finished. That would be alright if she left any, she just keeps eating until the food is all gone.

Our Reindeer were from a Herd where they would not have got any individual attention, so we really are surprised and pleased just how friendly they are. Even Padfoot who we were told was a threat in the Rutting Season has been exceptionally good. We were told to be very careful not to go into the field with him. To make sure that all the Reindeer get the food that we put in the troughs I go in the field with Padfoot very close by and he has not shown any aggression at all. A few weeks back he did half heartedly attack a front wheel of the quad bike, so I always keep an eye on him just in case, for his antlers would do me a fair bit of damage.

Sorry that there has not been any new photographs or a Diary for the past couple of days. We have been extremely busy with finishing the kitchen and cottage, getting the hay in and getting ready for our holiday guests. We also have friends staying.

We will get back over the next couple of days when I will also tell you about our new photograph Galleries that some of you may want to be involved in.

There are five new photographs on the Photo page from…

There are five new photographs on the Photo page from number six. Getting short of photographs.

The first three photographs were taken when we went to visit the new additions to Denbury.

A baby Reindeer taken at Cricket St Thomas. David.

A pair of black swans and there signets taken at Cricket St Thomas. Vicky.

I reckon Karen was visiting the Cricket St Thomas webcams as we were visiting the Wildlife Park ourselves this morning to check out the our new additions. As you can see in the photograph that I took this morning, the Buck or Bull as they are sometimes called is a fine looking fella, his name is Padfoot and is about four years old. At this time of year they shed their coats so they do look a little moth eaten. By the time that they arrive at Denbury they will look a lot tidier. The Female is named Fluer, she is two years old and has not started to get any meaningful antlers. She had a Fawn this year but unfortunately she sat on it whilst giving birth. I could have had an older female, but it would have meant waiting until the Fawn had been weaned off of the Doe. As soon as the Buck starts to loose the velvet, we shall collect him from the Wildlife Park with the Doe.

Whilst at the Wildlife Park we tried to get a photograph of the Black Swan Cygnets that we are also getting. Unfortunately the Swans and Cygnets were hiding in the reeds. As you can see on the Photo page, Vicky took a photograph of the same Swans and Cygnets on a visit to the Wildlife Park, when she was holidaying at Denbury, a few weeks back. The photograph of the Reindeer Fawn was taken at the same time by her friend David. Since Vicky took the photograph the Cygnet are quite a lot larger, and have started to get their feathers, so we can hopefully collect them in the early part of September. I will speak to Neil from WWT to make sure that we can take them from the Swans before we do. The Black Swans originate from Australia and New Zealand and are therefor from the Southern Hemisphere. Although they are in the Northern Hemisphere they still breed as if they were still in the Southern, so the Cygnets were born in February time.

As you know our new sponsor for supplying our Bird and Badger food is Jacobi Jayne. They are trying out our site on a trial. If they find that they are getting sales through people linking from the site they will continue, so if any of you do order Bird Feed please give them a try. Free phone 0800 072 0130

Over the next few days you will see that our website has been revamped. The top header will still be flash, but changing to some of the Wildlife that we show, rather than attractions, many of which are not represented on our website. Some of the other pages will be showing various advertising so that we will be able to earn some income to be able site webcams into more locations and to keep this website continuing. Every time that you click onto one of the advertisement we will get a very small payment, not even a penny but with your help by clicking on the advertisements the Penny’s will we hope soon become POUNDS, DOLLARS AND EUROS.

Starting from number six there are five new photographs on…

Starting from number six there are five new photographs on the Photo page of Bliss and Misty.

Bliss and Misty galloping.

Bliss and Misty on their warm up.

Bliss.

Misty.

The grass Gallops at Chantilly. The men are there two fill in the divots after the Horses have passed.

As the drainage work on the Farm was going so well and I seemed to be standing around doing nothing, I decided to make a quick dash to France to see how Bliss and Misty were doing. I managed to book a seat on the 2.04pm Eurostar to Paris, leaving the Farm at 10.am, arriving at the Trainers Stables in Chantilly at about 7.0pm Tuesday evening.

On arriving at the stables I went straight to see Bliss and Misty. Both Fillies had their heads down eating their hay. I would like to think that they remembered me for as when I called their names they came straight over to the stable door. In the rush to catch my trains I had forgotten the Herbie treats, it did make me feel guilty.

I ate with the Trainer and his Family and had the use of the guest cottage for the night. Trouble was that as you go through the Channel Tunnel the clocks go forward an hour. The Trainer and his Family turned in at 10.30pm, in UK time it was 9.30pm. As there was nothing else to do I made my way to the cottage. There was no television either, I had never been to bed so early since I was at School.

Even with going to bed early the night before I still managed to miss the first group of Horses on the morning 6.30am training session. After breakfast it was time to see Bliss and Misty on the 8.30am training session. I so much enjoyed seeing them work it seemed it was over before it had started. The group of Horses that Bliss and Misty were with did their warming up and then went to the grass gallops. I thought that they would have done a warm up canter on the grass before any galloping, so I wasn’t that concerned about getting a photograph on the gallops, until it was that I realised that the first run was going to be the only opportunity to get a photograph, so it was taken a bit in haste, that made me take the photograph to quickly so that Bliss and Misty were to far away and unrecognisable in the photograph. As it was the only photograph a friend enlarged it for me. It has turned out really well.

After seeing the other training sessions it was time for a quick lunch with the Trainer at a restaurant that he was meant to have lunch with a group of people with Monty Roberts the so called Horse Whisper, who I was introduced to, but not before I had scrounged a few carrots from the Trainers kitchen to give to Bliss and Misty before I left. After lunch I got the train back to Paris for the 4.15pm Eurostar back to London. The connections once back in the UK went well and I arrived back home in time to feed the Badgers last night.

Bliss and Misty are doing really well, but we wont know if they will make it until they start to race. They should have been racing by now, but there is a problems with the Export Certificate that the transport people should have applied for when they travelled to France last November. We cant name them until all the paper work is in order. To do that the Horse passports needed to be returned to the UK from France. They were sent from France early last week and should have arrived in the UK by Monday gone at the latest. They have not arrived, so new passports will need to be applied for if they haven’t been received by the coming Monday. That will need a Veterinary describing on paper all of Bliss and Mist body markings, and a renewable passport fee that is more than one we would have to pay for.

The dash to France was a hard two days, but it was well worth it to see Bliss and Misty. Trouble was the drainage work was not finished when I got back to the Farm and I had to help top get it finished.

There are five new photographs on the Photo page, starting from number eleven. I am sure that there must be some good photographers who have not yet sent any photographs in for the Photo page.

Thornton first day out.

Thornton feed time.

First pair born.

A Yellowhammer that has started visiting my garden. Have never seen one in the garden before so very happy. Liz.

A GREAT TIT AT A BIRD FEEDING AREA AT BOLTON ABBEY. LYNNE.

The first two photographs are of Thornton our pet Lamb. One of my Lads is taking him home to look after. He will be coming back to the Farm when he is weaned from the bottle. The other photograph is of the twin Lambs that were born to Dolly. When we went to give the Ewes their hay, the twins were missing. We hunted every where for them. After half an hour of looking for them and not hearing them calling we were about to give up looking when we noticed Dolly looking into the black rubber bowl that one of the Lambs are standing in. When we looked into the bowl there they were snuggled up together in the bowl. I ran in to the Farm House to get the camera as it would have been a good photograph. By the time I got back they were just getting out.

Duck and Duck again.

This plant was given to me,they are Moth Orchids.Lindsay.

View from Aonoch Mor. Nevis Range. Scotland. from Judy.

Taken by my granddaughter last year on holiday in Devon and Cornwall. PM.

Pam, an episode with that name, could well have been made in our Village.

I have a lot of paperwork to catch up on tonight, so I will only update you on the remote Duck. It arrived back today. Jack has done an excellent job making it for me. I don’t like to admit it but it was a lot better job than I would have done. On the first photograph you can see the camera in between the Ducks eyes. Underneath at the rear you can see the steering propeller. In the second photograph you can see a little of the workings. Under what you can see is a lot more, including the electric engine, prop-shaft and the steering mechanics. Believe me there is very much more inside the Duck than you can see. Jack had not tried the Duck in water, so I tried it very briefly on the Lake this afternoon. I wasn’t going to let you see the first launch just in case something went wrong. It sat perfectly in the water and the control was faultless. I haven’t tried the camera, but Jack tells me that what he saw was good. I will put it on the water over the weekend and show it on the Lake webcam. I will put the day and time on the Forum in case you want to see it. I am not sure that I will be able to have the camera working, as I was let down the wire for the new Lake camera and did not receive it until late this afternoon. I thought that I should show you a photograph of the Duck just in case it decides to take a dive.

If any of you are considering purchasing a nest box, you wouldn’t go far wrong in looking at the boxes that you can access from the Denbury Farm webcam pages. Clicking on the nest box on the left hand side of the page will direct you the a better description.
