Just had a phone call from PC Mclean. You do not have to attend the Police Station tomorrow to answer your bail, as The Crown Prosecution Service do not believe that it would be in the public interest to prosecute you. I bet that hurt.

What a waste of Police time, let alone mine. It was only pursued because the complainant was a Crown Court Judge. If it had been any one else nothing would have been done. Why do I say that. Because it was the Easter weekend and it would not have been through the Police system other than that the Judge went to the highest ranking Police Officer that he could on the day to make the complaint. The Police jumped. That’s wrong.

An other part of this episode is even worse. The incident was witnessed by one of our Holiday Guests. A few weeks ago the Police phoned him in Wales and took a statement from him over the phone. The Statement was duly sent to him to be signed. Last night he phoned me telling me that he had returned the statement unsigned to the Police with a covering letter explaining that the statement that was sent to him to be signed was not what he had intended. It was one sided and against me. I should think that the letter to the Police had a lot to do with today’s decision.

I should think that the Judge would not be to happy when he hears. He would have been a lot less happy if I had been charged as I had intended to take out a private prosecution against him for trespass.

I had no intention of doing a Diary today until I had a phone call from our local Police. The reason for the phone call is of little relevance until the sting in the tail.

Yesterday evening from our kitchen window we saw two people with their dogs walking on the footpath that passes through our Farm Yard. They were in my opinion, by the way they were acting, either being extremely nosey or possibly even looking for what could be stolen. On two occasions they trespassed on our property, once was onto our Cottages Car Park that was obviously not the Footpath. On seeing them trespass I had no alternative but to challenge them.

By the time I had put my shoes on and gone to challenge them they had reached the entrance of one of the Paddocks, and had again left the footpath. They were gesturing to what was in the Paddock. By this time I had challenged them from a distance. Instead of continuing on their way the man decided to make various unnecessary remarks. I am not the most patient of people and told them to (swearing)off. By this time what they were gesturing to showed its self. It was Thornton. The people allowed their dogs to put their faces onto Thornton’s face. One of the dogs was even making a low growl. Seeing this made me even more annoyed and I shouted again for the people to so and so. Turning to walk on, the man again made a couple of nasty remarks. As the people walked away Thornton started to follow them, making me have to run up to him to make him turn to return to the Farm. I told them again in no uncertain terms what the so and so did they think that they were doing A threat was made to me that they they would report me to the Police.

The phone call was to tell me that I should attend the Police Station to be arrested about the incident that happen with the walkers. I was told that if I did not attend I would be arrested at the Farm. I put the phone down with little intention of attending the Police Station. I have had a number of altercations with people using footpaths that go through the Farm. Always for trespassing or going the wrong way, not having the dogs on leads or interfering with property or the Animals. A number of those people have complained to the Police. Always a Police person has come to the Farm and asked what has happened. On hearing our side of the incident the matter has been closed, so it was strange that I was told that I was going to be arrested. With this in mind I decided to go to the Police Station to make a complaint.

I was arrested by a what an aggressive Women Police Officer, my photograph, fingerprints and DNA was taken. I was locked in a cell until I was interviewed on tape.

The interview that followed was carried out in a very formal way. Some of the questions I was asked and a couple of the remarks that were made to me were not what I would have expected. One being, was it unreasonable for the walkers to pet Thornton or any of the other livestock. I think that it is unreasonable for any person to interfere with any of my animals without my permission. As you know we nearly lost Thornton a few months ago and if we had not seen the incident yesterday the same thing may have happened. The walkers even made allegations that I had threatened them with violence. I didn’t and the word that were alleged that I had used are word that I would not use. After the interview I was bailed to attend the Police Station on the 1st of June.

The sting in the tail. The walkers were a high Court Judge and his Partner.

Before telling me who the people were, the Police Officer suggested that the the people did not look like robbers. Without a label or a robbers uniform can any one tell me what a robber looks like. I asked the Officer, she couldn’t answer. The Judge didn’t look like a Judge either. Not that it would have made any difference if he had.

I would not have been arrested if it had been any one else. I will be speaking to my Solicitor to make a formal complaint.

Penny reckons Sheep are not the smartest animals in the field. You haven’t met Thornton. I kept over a hundred Sheep some year ago. Being part of a flock they didn’t need to be smart. If one runs you all run was their way of thinking. They really didn’t need to think that much for all they have to do is eat, sleep and produce. Thornton does, and he hasn’t had any other Sheep to teach him. Being that he is not even a year old he has learnt remarkably well. He has learnt some of what he knows from Tass and Kye. He opens door, tells you when he it is feeding time, knocks on doors to let people know he wants to come in. On walks with the Dogs he will come to heel when called and will walk to heel. He has needed and want to learn. All animals will if they need to.

The last time that we saw the Little Egret was last Monday. I don’t know if it because the Geese have now settled on the Lake or that it has found a better food source. Although it did eat a few of the small Fish he was also feeding on what ever it could find in the boggy area as well. We had one visit the Farm some years back, but that was a one only appearance. Other than those I have never seen a little Egret until a couple of days ago when I was driving on the M5 and one was in a Field very close to the Road.

Rustlers warned stolen sheep may be poisonous.

Sent in by Elsie.

RUSTLERS who butchered four pregnant sheep in a field were last night warned the meat could pose a health hazard.

The thieves left a bloody scene and the bodies of four unborn lambs at the field on the outskirts of Staindrop, near Barnard Castle, County Durham.

Police believe the sheep will be sold on the black market as meat, but have warned that the sheep had last week been given worming treatment, and the flesh contains potentially dangerous levels of worming chemicals that could cause illness if eaten.

The reason that it was important to acquire the major part of Ash Wood is that it borders onto Denbury. Over the past few years we have had problems with neighbours shooting in the Wood without Somerset County Council the owner permission. Some of those shooting in the Wood have been shooting on the boundaries of Denbury that has been causing disturbances to our Horses and ourselves. The Woods have two bridle paths passing through it and on a number of occasion’s the unexpected shooting has caused the Horses to panic, only the riders good riding ability has stopped there from being serious accidents. From one Bridle path to the other is a short distance that can easily be reached by the shot of as shotgun, so you can imagine both Horse Riders and Pedestrians using the Bridle Paths were in danger of being shot by stray shotgun cartridges or rifle bullets.

There was also indiscriminate shooting of Wildlife. Only last year I heard shooting and went to investigate. The shooting was being aimed at a Rookery. The persons eyesight wasn’t that good, for out of a tree fell a Blackbird. I had two option to try to stop what was going on in the Woods. One was to forcibly remove them or get the Police involved. I decided the Police in the hope that some people Gun Licences would be revoked. Unfortunately as much as the Police understood and fully agreed as did the Police Firearm licencing Department there had to be a number of different witnesses to the incidents. The relevant areas are now covered to catch any person shooting and now all of the Wood will be covered. One person was told in no uncertain terms that we acquired the Wood and that under no circumstances are they to trespass off of the bridle paths and never to carry guns in the Wood or to shoot into the Wood.

We will try to get help from different bodies to help with making the Wood a safe haven for Wildlife, to help with different work that will need doing. Another option is to syndicate the Woods for Wildlife enthusiast, giving them the opportunity to part own a Wildlife Haven and also help in its upkeep.

Cop arrested for interfering with badger sett

A POLICE officer was arrested for allegedly interfering with a badger sett at the same time his force was targeting the cruel sport of badger baiting.

The man has since quit the force and is still being investigated by his former colleagues.

In the past two years, Northumbria Police – working with the RSPCA – has carried out a series of operations to smash badger baiting rings operating in the region.

Chief Supt Chris Machell, head of the force’s Professional Standards department, said: “A police officer based in Newcastle area command was arrested in February on suspicion of interference with a badger sett.

“He was released on police bail pending further enquiries. The officer was suspended but subsequently tendered his resignation. This was accepted. The investigation continues.

“Northumbria Police will always robustly investigate any allegation of wrongdoing by employees.”

The officer – who comes from the Westerhope area of Newcastle – has not been named.

He was arrested after a badger sett in Hepscott, Northumberland, was found to have been disturbed.

Sophie Corless, RSPCA spokeswoman, said: “The RSPCA is investigating alleged offences under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006.”
