We are still having trouble uploading the photographs. I may have a bug in my computer that is stopping me. Some one else will put the photograph on a little later.

Sorry 123 who host our Domain Names went off line at about 5.30pm for over an hour this afternoon, causing Wildlife TV not to be available, so you missed my Halloween contribution, best part of it was that I didn’t realise it was not working until I had got back from feeding the Badgers all dressed in my Halloween outfit. This year I had put a bit more effort in the outfit, even getting my Silk Top Hat out to wear for the occasion. If the Hat had of got marked I would have been well put out, even more so if no one had seen me.

Top Hat you ask, what would a Farmer be doing with a Top Hat. I purchased it over twenty years ago when I had the Horse Drawn Carriages. I only ever worn it once when I entered a Carriage Show. I weighed a fair bit less that I do now and if it had not been for my ears it would have rested on my shoulder as it was so big for me. If I remember correctly I paid under

A photographer tracked this beautiful wolf for two hours in Yellowstone National Park to get this photo. He had this to say about it:

I tracked this guy for over two hours through the wilderness. He knew I was following him for sure as we would move from trees to fields then back to trees. After the first 10 minutes, it was obvious that he was a million times more agile

Karen has asked to see a photograph of our Antique Gates that we are putting up at the entrance of our Driveway. The Gate Posts and railings are in place. As we are having the gates electrically operated they will need to have a couple of brackets welded on to the gates so that we can fit the mechanism. That is going to be done this Saturday. Whilst that welding is being done we are going to have the hinges welded so that it will be difficult to remove the gates. They would be worth a few pence in scrap value as they are so heavy. I would not like to lose them so they will not be hung on the Posts until then. When I say heavy, believe me they really are. Even my Lads and myself struggle to lift them, They would still be difficult to lift with four men. When they are hung I will put a photograph on the Photo Page.

The Pennywell Farm Reindeer surprisenly have not been that friendly since they have been here. I thought that as they were in an open Farm they would be very easy to get on with. On the contrary until today neither had come very close to us. This afternoon we managed to get one of then to come close to feed from a feed scoop, the other female is very wary. Other than Padfoot she chases all of the other Reindeer away from the feed troughs, not allowing any of the other Reindeer to have any feed until she has finished. That would be alright if she left any, she just keeps eating until the food is all gone.

Our Reindeer were from a Herd where they would not have got any individual attention, so we really are surprised and pleased just how friendly they are. Even Padfoot who we were told was a threat in the Rutting Season has been exceptionally good. We were told to be very careful not to go into the field with him. To make sure that all the Reindeer get the food that we put in the troughs I go in the field with Padfoot very close by and he has not shown any aggression at all. A few weeks back he did half heartedly attack a front wheel of the quad bike, so I always keep an eye on him just in case, for his antlers would do me a fair bit of damage.

With the clocks going back tonight, as long as I don’t forget I will be feeding the Badgers at 5.20pm. To the Badgers it will be feed time as usual. Why we continually year after year have to suffer disruption that the clock changes cause I cannot understand. I would like most others prefer it to stay lighter at night. Just for the amount of power it would save, you would think that some politician would use a private members bill to have it altered if one is needed at all that is.

The two Reindeer from Pennywell Farm that are here to be mated by Padfoot wont allow our Reindeer to feed. I would have expected a little bickering but it is a bit full on. For two days our females have not had any feed at all. Tonight I have needed to go in the Reindeer field so that the feed is had by all. Fortunately Padfoot is behaving himself, but keeping the two separated I have to be in between Padfoot and the two females, far away from the gate to be in an uncomfortable place if Padfoot did decide that I was not welcome in his domain. My being in the Field does cause another problem as two of our females are particularly friendly, so much so that when I initially go into the Field they prefer to inspect me than eat the feed that I am protecting for them.

Its always nice to see sheep, happily grazing. Karen Stoke.

This sheep just stood watching me as I crept along the hedgerow, we stood there ages just staring at each other. They have the most delightful faces. Karen Stoke.

This is the silhouette of a robin, it was singing away we were looking for it for a while before we found it in the barn. Karen Stoke.

Crows, in the Next field to Chester, they are there every week but I managed to snap them on Saturday. Karen Stoke.

As some of you have noticed, Padfoot is keeping busy and hopefully he is doing his job, we will only know how well if we get any Reindeer Calves. Although Padfoot is eating well and seems lively he has been scouring. We have given him antibiotics, multivitamin and he has been wormed so we hope that the scouring will stop. We went to Cricket St Thomas this afternoon to get a bag of the feed that he was fed on whilst there. It could be the change of feed that has caused the scouring. Another reason could be that there is a lot of good grass feed still in the field. Padfoot when at Cricket St Thomas was in a lot smaller enclosure to what he has at Denbury, so there was little grass for him to feed on. We give the Reindeer barley straw to eat, but when there is grass available they rarely eat it. In the wild Reindeer diet consist of a lot of lichen, mosses and grasses when they can find them. They are also partial to Willow, Hazel and Ivy leaves, I don’t know if they can find them in the wild but they eat them from the hedges around their field. We also cut branches off of the Willow Trees around the Farm, you have probably seen the large Willow branches that we put in the field.

We are clearing around the Lake and Pond so that they can be seen as you drive down our driveway that runs along the side of them. In the area are a few Willow Trees, one of them had grown very large in a very short period of time, so much so that a parts were leaning over. We have cut that down over the past few days and fed part of that to the Reindeer. With the Willow gone it has opened the Lake and Pond area up and there is now a good view from the camera that we put up to watch the Geese on the Island. I will show it on the webcam one day next week.

On my way to Cricket St Thomas today I needed to fill our car with diesel. With the publicity that Tesco had reduced their petrol cost I thought that I would wait until I got to the Tesco petrol station in Chard that is near Cricket, to fill the car. I passed a quite a few petrol stations on the way, all of them had petrol priced at 98p and as low as 95p even a couple of independent stations. When I got to Tesco in Chard their price for petrol was 101.99p. They did have their 5p discount if you spent
