There are five new photographs on the Photo page, starting from number one. I am sure that there must be some good photographers who have not yet sent any photographs in for the Photo page.

Ben Nevis,Scotland. Lindsay.

Screen shot of the young Stag that was in the valley with the Royal Stag last week. Sent in by Marie.

Eden Project. Sue.

Wild Orchids, from Judy.

Elephants taken by my granddaughter last year on holiday in Devon and Cornwall. PM.

Jack has finished making the remote controlled Duck. It will be with me tomorrow. If I can manage to wire up the new Lake camera before Easter I will try it out and put it on the webcam. We were installing the new camera and making the remote Duck to watch the Geese, but unfortunately we have not seen the Geese for a few days. They may well have decided to nest in another place.

I was talking to Peter at the Lock of the Lowe’s when he panned the camera around, he was showing me the how the new nest camera works. Hopefully this will be the camera that will be used for the webcam. It is possible that the PTZ camera that we supplied will be fitted tomorrow, so that it can be used for different views at the Lock.

Julia, Arthur.C.Clarkes brother still lives in our village. Ash Priors is a small village. As small as it is I have only ever spoken to six people in the fifteen years that I have lived here. That would only be because of necessity not by choice. I would not know what his brother looked like. Like a lot of small country villages, they have their Women’s Institutes and meetings in the Village Hall. The sort of village you see in the television programme Midsomer Murders.

There are five new photographs on the Photo page, starting from number six. Getting short of photographs again.

Bush Turkey from Australia sent by my friend, she says they are ugly little things. Elsie.

Pictures for the Forum; taken in my garden in Wales. PM.

Red deer. Judy.

Not Donkies but taken at Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary in Oxfordshire. CH.

Winter sunset through my trees in North Yorkshire. Lindsay.

There are a pair of Blackbirds collecting food and taking it back to a nest some where near the Farm House. I haven’t had time to have a good look to try to find it, but I have looked in a few places that I have seen them disappear to. I will come across it. As soon as I do I will put a camera on it. That is of course if the Chicks haven’t fledged.

Those of you who saw our Sheep in the fields last year with their Lambs, must have remembered that the Fox would walk in between them and that the Ewes would take no notice of them what so ever. This morning whilst we were mucking out the Horses, we saw a Fox this side of our boundary fence. On the other side of the fence were our neighbours Ewes and Lambs that he had moved from the field that we had the webcam on yesterday. What made us notice the Fox was that for a moment we thought that it was either Tass or Kye and they were stalking along the fence line. The Ewes were panicking and bleating out, so much so that it was a very loud noise. For sure the Fox was looking for a meal. The Fox must have been hungry or a chancer, for it stood very little chance of catching any of the Lambs, they would have been to fast for any easy kill and it was in daylight.

We believe that we have found out why we not been getting very good pictures from the new camera in Delaware, USA. I managed to get a technical person from one of the pieces of equipment that we use, that I believed could be causing the problem to speak to Peter. Peter from the site has probably not installed a part of the equipment correctly. I will be talking to him later tonight. It looks as if new wiring may be needed. I will keep you up to date with the progress.

Newquay harbour from up at the top of the road. Sue.

ROCKS ON THE SURPRISE NEAR SHEFFIELD. Lynne.

Moreton Island Australia, this looks absolutely beautiful. Elsie.

A Buzzard at the Red Kite feeding station. Rhyader ,Wales. Judy.

A few more pictures for the Forum; taken in my garden in Wales today. PM.

I received the email below from Peter in Delaware. We just need to get the camera working properly. Peter has a person going to look at it for him today.

,both male and female are back, they have been mating all morning and are building the nest back to nesting status. The nest they are going to use is our nest with the web cam.

I caught a glimpse of the young Vixen that looked a little poor last night. I will try to get a good look at her tonight. She has probably got a litter of Cubs nearby and it has been the first time she has left them since being born. Having and looking after Cubs will take a lot out of a Vixen. The Vixen relies on the Dog Fox for her food for the first weeks after she has given birth to the Cubs. She unable to leave the Cubs for the first couple of weeks, if she does they will be liable to die from the cold. The Dog Fox shouldn’t have a lot of trouble hunting food at Denbury. There are Rabbits everywhere and you no doubt have seen the amount of Pheasant that we have here.

We have seen a Vixen in our garden over the past few days. I cant remember it looking poor, but I will make sure that I look properly next time I see her. Mind you thinking about it she was in the garden when Tass and Kye were outside, quite close to where the Vixen was in the garden, so she must have been hungry.

I bet not many of you saw the Stag this afternoon. I first noticed a young one and was following him. When I moved the camera slightly I just saw the antlers of the larger one. It was only after it disappeared into the woods that I realised that I had not counted how many tips were on his antlers. If there had of been twelve it would have been a Royal Stag. What ever it was a magnificent animal. They may return, so I check the camera in the valley now and then through the night.

SUNSET IN NORTH YORKSHIRe. LYNNE.

Birds taken in my garden last spring. PM.

The 1st photo is of Newquay harbour from up at the top of the road. Sue.

Zoom into this picture and see if you can see the bat. Taken by my neighbour while they were in Australia. Elsie.

Hope you get this Sorry it appears to be black and white. I thought this might wet appetites of things to come over the Spring and Summer when the Osprey return. It was taken on the 17th July shortly before the chicks fledged. Elaine.

Linsey asked about the Geese. I reckon that it may have been the weather that kept them away. Today two pairs arrived on the Lake within an hour of each other. I put the camera on them but had to get on with some work, so I was unable to follow them. One pair flew off very soon after arriving the other pair stayed until late afternoon, I am sure the one pair will eventually stay and nest on the Lake. I have got the wire to get the new camera working that will overlook the Geese nest. It is just managing to find the time to do it.

Jack has nearly got the Duck finished. I phoned him this evening about it. Whilst putting the camera into the ducks head, he knocked the signal ariel off and was soldering it back on when I phoned. There is a chance that it may not be able to be repaired. If it cant be, it will mean buying a new camera from China. It could well be alright I will let you know.

Anjela asked a few days ago about having sound on the Ghost Cam. We have asked the question, but have also needed to give advice. Sound would be great on all of the webcams, but unless it is in a location away from people, as is the Osprey Nest at the Lock of the Lowe’s, it would be too intrusive to the lives of those broadcasting the webcams. On the Farm when working we would have to be careful of what we said. Private conversation that we may be talking about as we are working, could be overheard. I would like to put sound on of a night where the Badger and Fox feed and in the Valley where we can hear the Owls and other nocturnal life, but it is to easy to forget to turn the sound off of a day. In the house where the Ghost Cams are the occupant very rarely go away, like us they have animals to look after.

The occupants of the Haunted House do very regularly hear noises that cant be explained. Creaking floors as if someone was walking about and other noises. They have promised that as soon as they get time they will tell you of other sightings and incident that have happen, some very recent.

A couple of entries were submitted to the Forum about our sponsors CJ. To those who submitted them, I did not approve them, not because your comments were necessarily wrong, but because CJ are still our sponsors and have been good to us over the period that we have been associated with them. I am sure no offence was meant or taken.

Another entry that I did not approve was from John who suggested that the forum could be on a done via Yahoo, with an on line chat room. Don’t like that idea John. For one it is very difficult to monitor chat rooms and they tend to invite the worse aspects of the web and often the worse people. Our Forum is very basic, but also very easy.

Robin I didn’t put you link on the other day, as there are adds on the side.

Nice idea Margaret-Poole, I don’t need it yet.

This is for Lindsay to show her Nellie Moser when it is a lot bigger. Elsie.

My daughters baby rabbits taken in summer 1994 The grey one at the back we decided to keep and was named Fred by my partner. He used to let him out at the weekends when he was here then he would feed him his toast and then when it was time for him to go back to the hutch Dave would just stand with the door open and he would go in. Sadly we don’t have him now but he certainly was a character Sue.

WE WENT TO THE YORKSHIRE DALES FOR A FEW DAYS LAST WEEK IT WAS NICE BUT COLD!!!
DAVE TOOK THESE PHOTOS PLUS A FEW MORE !! BOLTON ABBEY,LYNNE.

Birds taken in my garden last spring. PM.

A BUSY DAY AT WEST SOMERSET RAILWAY. FROM MARIE AND JOHN.

I have been speaking to Peter at SWT today. He was telling me that Osprey have been known to return to the Lock as early as the 18th of March.
Peter has put the close up camera of the nest on. As you can see there is very little of it left. If you follow the tree trunk up to the smaller branch facing toward you, nearly at the top of the picture, that is where the nest reached last year. The Ospreys will have a lot of work getting the nest ready.

As you can see we have moved Emmi and the Foal into the larger stable that we made a little while back. With the weather as it is the Foal has more room to have a run around. We have not been able to let them out as much as we would like. We do open the stable door when we can. Emmi is not that keen on letting Lady to near her Foal, being in the larger stable she is able to keep him away from the end next to Lady’s stable.

With the days getting longer I am going to have to start feeding the Badgers later. Tonight I fed the at about 6.30pm I will gradually feed a little later so that i will be feeding them at about 7.pm within a week. For a change I am putting the lower camera feeding place on. All that is needed is in place to put another Badger camera on the main Sett entrance. But I have not managed to be able find the time. I want to be able to position it at about the Badger head height. I may be wrong but I think that it could be a quite interesting position.

Bird taken in my garden last spring. PM.

Emmi has started to drip a little milk from her udder, so her Foaling cant be that far away. I would say tonight, but I said that a day or so back and we are still waiting. We are so tired having to wake as we are to check on Emmi, that if I yawn any wider I will swallow myself. I do wonder at times like this why I bother.

Another pair of Geese arrived on the Lake earlier today. The two pairs have not stopped honking at each other all day. I hope that the new pair will not be dominant, as the others must have laid an egg yesterday. I don’t think that the pair that were mating yesterday, were the same as last year. I only say that because the pair last year would rest on the left hand bank of the Lake, this pair are using the right hand side. As I am writing the Diary one pair has flown off of the Lake. It could well be the new pair that are still here as they are by the boat. Not the normal place. A bit later, the female has gone to the nest on the island, I should think to lay another egg, and off they flew.

I spoke to Simon a couple of days ago about the progress with the Griffon Vulture Camera. The first nest site that he had hoped to have used has not as yet been occupied. To set the camera in position Simon will need to climb the rock face. He needs to be 99% sure that the nest will be occupied of it will mean that he will have to do another climb to take the camera down and install else where.

Hells Mouth in Cornwall we once saw a leatherback turtle here! Lindsay.

I thought these two looked rather nice, taken at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, an event well supported by the heavy horses. CH

Mr. Farmer, pictures of our latest butterflies that just recent emerged. The one in my husband’s hand is a Orange Barred Sulphur. Karen, Florida (USA)

A quick turn around about the Geese from last nights Diary. They have been on and around the Lake for all of the day. Late this afternoon I moved the camera around just as one of them used the ramp to get onto the island. Earlier in the day we had been putting the camera on a pole overlooking the island. We couldn’t help being a little noisy, as we needed to use a small scaffold tower to put the camera to the height that we wanted. The tower being a bit rusty we needed to hit it a bit with a hammer. Then we needed to drill the hole to fit the camera. We thought that the noise would have made the Geese fly off, but they didn’t take any notice of us at all. As I am writing the Diary, they are in their courtship ritual and mating, I hope you saw it, so it looks. definite that they are nesting on the island. I will get the new camera working as soon as I can, but no later than the coming Monday.

We have been getting a Barn Owl nest box ready to put up outside. We don’t no where at the moment. I had a sample made when we were selling normal sized nest boxes, but never got around to putting it up. It needed to be oiled to protect from the weather. We will try to get it put in place once we decide where we are going put it. We have two Barn Owl nest box’s in our big barn. We haven’t seen any thing take any notice of them, not even the Doves. The nest box that we are getting ready is going to be put up outside, who will finish up using it we will have to wait and see. Of course that is if anything does at all.

As they say, as one thing goes another comes. Yesterday the Farmer next door moved his Sheep to his field that backs onto the field where the Badgers are. Unfortunately it is in line with his Farm House and I had agreed that I would not show his Sheep in that Field. It would have been nice to have been able to keep watching the Sheep. As the lambs get older they do play a lot more.

The camera and equipment that was needed to set up the broadcasting in Delaware, USA, is installed and we are getting images of the location through our private viewing. At the moment the picture is not as good as it should be. We can see the area but the picture is rolling. I spoke to Peter this evening, he is working on the problem and it will be rectified very shortly. Unfortunately it is snowing where he is. To get to the camera he needs to use a rowing boat. I know that is not a very nice experience in the snow. We will have to monitor what is being broadcast privately for a month, as the location is in a built up area and we do not want to intrude on peoples privacy. We also need to make sure that we are not broadcasting any thing that will offend our viewers. The water area where the camera is located is called Indian River Bay. It sounds an exciting wildlife area.

Now that you have seen how many Sheep and Lambs there are in the field next to ours, you will know for sure that they are our neighbour’s and not mine. The thought of having that amount frightens me to death. I remember when I had a hundred of them. The trouble with Sheep is that you can get a lot of problems with their feet. Foot rot is not uncommon. You need to regularly trim there feet, trouble is Sheep have four feet, multiply that by a hundred and you have got a very aching back. Especially when you are new at trying to be a Shepperd. With me it was trying. Try catching Sheep when you are new at it. It starts off being a bit of a laugh until you are sweating buckets on a hot summers day, and you have still only managed to catch one. To trim their feet you need to have their backs leaning into you legs, with the Sheep backside on the ground. Try getting them in that position so that you are able to trim their feet without them being able to move, when you are new at keeping Sheep. You would be very fortunate if you managed to get one of their feet trimmed before they had managed to wriggle into a position, that made it impossible for you to keep them where you wanted them, and it is not easy to get them into that position in the first place, there is a knack to it. Until you get the knack it is hard work. The few we have, are a few to many but we will keep them. Mind you I do like to hear the Lambs bleating and calling out from the field next door.
