great to see the meerkats again Mr Farmer – I did wonder if you still had them as I hadn’t seen them for a while. Hope everybody on here keeping well. Weather here very dull and grey and its getting dark so much earlier. Have been reading that we are in for a very long cold winter….Ooer… gal Pam, Norfolk.
Mr. Farmer, the new Meerkat house is fantastic, great job. I love watching them.
Really enjoying myself watching the new cam with the Meerkats on cam one. They are so funny and give so much pleasure. Thank you Mr Farmer.
Quiet on the forum these days, but not a lot happening. Hope everyone is keeping well and that includes Mr and Mrs Farmer. Did you manage to get all the hay in this year Mr Farmer. I know the weather has been topsy turphy. Having a better Autumn than Summer. Some really lovely sunny days, but a bit on the cold side up here. I don’t mind the cold as long as it is dry.
Take care all of you x.
Mr Farmer there appears to be only one camera working !

Well the end of the osprey watching for this year but still lots of birds to watch in the garden, already I have got 1 roosting wren in a nest pocket, goes in at 7.30 every night since last Thursday, have put up more nest pockets.Lovely day yesterday I was back in vest and shorts in the garden cutting the grass, nice at the moment aswell but going to work soon.In the greenhouse toms and cue did;nt do well but outside have loads of courgettes and purple French climbing beans, don’t wont this nice weather to end as I hate the winter and all that goes with it,hope everbody is well.
I know what you mean about the weather Wendy. I can imagine the tomatoes not doing well this year. In fact I haven’t seen an English tomato this ear.
Elsie do you grow anything in the garden or greenhouse.
Not now Wendy, used to be a keen gardener but now that I am confined to a wheelchair there is not much I can do. It is the one thing I miss in my life.
Ah well it looks like the end of watching the osprey season is coming to an end as three of the chicks have migrated which just leaves Dad and one chick to go so that means we will have to wait until next year for all the fun to begin again !
Awful weather know wonder they have left us – rain rain and more rain !!!!! and cold with it !!!!!

Mr Farmer, have you had the owls nesting in your barn this year and what about the black swans, do they look like they might consider nesting at all.
Mick
So it seems that Maddie has now left the nest and what an excellent Mum she has been and provided three chicks all of which have survived and are now learning to fish and feed themselves ! Thank you Maddie for taking over from Mabel and hopefully see you next year !
This is part of Loch of the Lowes update diary –
” The female hasn’t been sighted since last Friday morning so it now seems almost certain that she has begun her journey south for warmer, sunnier climes. With this being her first season at Loch of the Lowes we weren’t exactly sure when she would leave, but we know that female ospreys tend to migrate within a few weeks of any chicks fledging so it comes as no great surprise. Fingers crossed she will arrive safely on her wintering grounds and we can look forward to welcoming her back again next spring for another successful breeding season (one of many to come, we hope). ”

I see that the owl keeps getting out of the box and sitting on the top of it or along the rafters so not long until this one fledges !
Watcing the badgers in the evening and then later the rats arrive to finish the leftovers !
Not much sign of the osprey nowadays as the are always flying around and only pop on the nest for feeding !
Weather has been good where I live so making the most of it gardening etc !

The lake is looking lovely and tranquil this evening, could enjoy sitting there soaking it all up. Will be pleased when this awful weather improves on Thursday, or should I say it is supposed to, if you can believe the forecasters. I feel so sorry for the families on holiday. Apparently it won’t settle down until the middle of August. How beautiful those young osprey chicks are. They look so fit and healthy, won’t be long before they leave on their long journey abroad. wishing them a sake journey. The owlet is growing fast, pity there is only one but I suppose one is better than none at all.
Wonder how Val is, hope she is keeping fairly well.
Awww Karen I totally agree with every word you say ! The new Mabel (Maddie) has done herself proud also and hope that she returns next year to give us some more excitement and chicks too !
How are you now ? Are you sleeping any better ?
Jenny x
I keep looking in on the Osprey and my mind flips back to Mabel!. I have just been thinking what a Fabulous lifespan she had my word it just makes your mind boggle the journeys that superb bird did… how many thousands of miles did her wings clock up try and imagine, the weather conditions, Christ above it just doesn’t add up does it What a Bird I well up when i think about her actually i am crying tars of joy mixed with sadness I remember when i first started to watch her she had 3 young and I staked out that dam Cam until it happened the very first flight of one of the chicks Never have I experienced such Joy as I did that day the adrenaline rush was second to none…. So Mabel I believe you decided to stay put this year and thought well dam it I have retired give some other bird a chance on my Nest, and see if she measures up to me wings folded and a wink ……..Thank you Mabel! I also saw someone fishing this morning !
All the osprey chicks are now flying ! it will not bbe long now until they spread their wings elsewhere !

Watched a man catch a fish yesterday, it looked a big one as well. We are having cool weather here today, sunny but cold.
They are lovely birds Elsie and where my daughter lives she has red kites and buzzards flying over her garden and what a fantastic sight it is !
Jenny x
What a surprise I had today, this big bird flew low over us while in the garden, didn’t know what it was until my neighbour told me. It was a red kite. Apparently they have been breeding them at Harewood House since 1999 which is not far from us.
Hi Karen good to hear from you and yes I totally agree with you Maddie has done us all proud this year and hopefully she will be around for quite a few years to come ! I have also been watching the osprey at Rutland Water and they too have produced three chicks – so have been going from one nest site to another watching their progress which is virtually the same – bloody amazing aren’t they ?
