Finnegan the squirrel. Sent in by Elsie. Some person that Lynne has a lot in common with.

Debby Cantlon, who plans to release Finnegan, the young squirrel, back into the wild, bottle-fed the infant squirrel after it was brought to her house. When Cantlon took in the tiny creature and began caring for him, she found herself with an unlikely nurse’s aide: her pregnant Papillion, Mademoiselle Giselle. Finnegan was resting in a nest in a cage just days before Giselle was due to deliver her puppies. Cantlon and her husband watched as the dog dragged the squirrel’s cage twice to her own bedside before she gave birth. Cantlon was concerned, yet ultimately decided to allow the squirrel out and the inter-species bonding began.
Finnegan rides a puppy mosh pit of sorts, burrowing in for warmth after feeding, eventually working his way beneath his new litter mates. Two days after giving birth, mama dog Giselle allowed Finnegan to nurse; family photos and a videotape show her encouraging him to suckle alongside her litter of five pups. Now, Finnegan mostly uses a bottle, but still snuggles with his ‘siblings’ in a mosh pit of puppies, rolling atop their bodies and sinking in deeply for a nap. Finnegan and his new litter mates, five Papillion puppies, get along together as if they were meant to.

The first Geese at Denbury. Vicky.

Elaine the name of the dark bay horse is Arnie. He is 17.3hh. We bought him about seven years ago from an advertisement in a daily West Country newspaper. We very rarely buy the paper. The advert for him was tucked away at the bottom of the page in the corner that could very easily be missed, I should think a lot of potential Horse buyers did. I could never forget what it read. 17.3hh Dutch Warm Blood x thoroughbred. 9 years old Gelding, Dark bay. Done every thing.

My daughter sent these from Switzerland for you to see. Lindsay

Thought you could send these to Denbury. The H`erens breed (you need to put a speach mark over the first letter e to pronounce it properly) will meet in the meadows as one big herd and go head to head to win a hierarchy. They are a very strong breed (the females look like bulls, esp the brown one in my picture) and various herds are scattered throughout the valley. With our herd just one cow has a bell whereas in other herds, they all wear them. Don’t appear to be used as milkers, more to graze the meadows.

We noticed that Gypsy had quite a large lump and a cut on her offside rear leg. It thought that it was probably a kick from one of the other Horses when they were having a run about. This evening when we let the Horses in for their feed Emmi had a kick on one of her rear leg. When we let the Horses out Gypsy was by the gate and she has got a kick mark on her nearside rear leg. Gypsy must have got the injury this afternoon as she was sitting on her own when I put the Horses on the webcams this afternoon.

Thinking back over the last couple of days I remembered that I had caught a quick glimpse of the Horses running around in what looked like a fun session that they sometimes have. When they stopped Breeze backed in to the group in what looked like a half hearted threat, or was it. I haven’t taken the chance. Breeze is being kept in for the night as she may be up to her old tricks again, trying to be the boss again. Trouble is when she decides that all is not going as she wants she starts to Herd all of the Horses up. That alright as long as she is not being a bully. Horses instinctively have leaders and they will give threats to show that they are.

As last year before we let Breeze out in the Field with the other Horses, we sectioned her off behind an electric fenced area so that she got use to the Mares with their Foals and Willow and Gypsy. As every year we let the battery on the electric loose its charge, eventually Breeze goes through the fence and joins the other Horse. This year she was the best that she had been. No running around it was just a nice herd,. It doesn’t seem to have lasted going by the minor injuries that Emmi and Gypsy have. We will section Breeze off behind an electric fenced area again tomorrow. Hopefully it will calm he down.

We cant take the chance with the Foals if there are arguments between the Horses. I should think that it is Emmi that Breeze disapproves of. When Willow and Gypsy play with the Foals they naturally will get close to the Mares, Breeze will then try to keep them away from Emmi and that is when the running around and kicking starts. Mind you I could well be wrong and it is not Breeze. Though the Horse field is calm tonight.

As you can see the revamped website went live earlier today. There are still a few adjustments to be made. We are also going to add more photographs of different Wildlife into the flash header. Some will need to be replaced as the quality of the photographs is not great. We are also going to increase the amount of photographs that are in the flash. Other that we hope to put in are Pine Martin, Swan, Geese, Sea Birds or Barry wont be best pleased, Hare, Bats and Butterfly. The Deer that is on its own is a photograph sent in by Vicky. I will look through a few of the photographs that you have sent in, to see if any are suitable. If you have any ideas or very good photographs let us know. We wont be having any more than twenty in the flash.

We put the new Swallow nest on this morning. Just in time by the looks of it as going by the size of the chicks that must have hatched this morning. The chicks in the first nest didn’t return for very long, I had expected that they would return for at least a few days longer. At the end of last year one lot returned to the nest for a least a couple of weeks.

Someone asked on the Forum about the quality of the SWT webcam two. The new camera that I supplied to them has for some reason stopped working. I have another camera to send to them. As soon as I have tested it I will send it on to them. Hopefully by Monday.

I am sorry that the Diary page is taking a little longer to download.

The first three photographs were taken when we went to visit the new additions to Denbury.

A baby Reindeer taken at Cricket St Thomas. David.

A pair of black swans and there signets taken at Cricket St Thomas. Vicky.

I reckon Karen was visiting the Cricket St Thomas webcams as we were visiting the Wildlife Park ourselves this morning to check out the our new additions. As you can see in the photograph that I took this morning, the Buck or Bull as they are sometimes called is a fine looking fella, his name is Padfoot and is about four years old. At this time of year they shed their coats so they do look a little moth eaten. By the time that they arrive at Denbury they will look a lot tidier. The Female is named Fluer, she is two years old and has not started to get any meaningful antlers. She had a Fawn this year but unfortunately she sat on it whilst giving birth. I could have had an older female, but it would have meant waiting until the Fawn had been weaned off of the Doe. As soon as the Buck starts to loose the velvet, we shall collect him from the Wildlife Park with the Doe.

Whilst at the Wildlife Park we tried to get a photograph of the Black Swan Cygnets that we are also getting. Unfortunately the Swans and Cygnets were hiding in the reeds. As you can see on the Photo page, Vicky took a photograph of the same Swans and Cygnets on a visit to the Wildlife Park, when she was holidaying at Denbury, a few weeks back. The photograph of the Reindeer Fawn was taken at the same time by her friend David. Since Vicky took the photograph the Cygnet are quite a lot larger, and have started to get their feathers, so we can hopefully collect them in the early part of September. I will speak to Neil from WWT to make sure that we can take them from the Swans before we do. The Black Swans originate from Australia and New Zealand and are therefor from the Southern Hemisphere. Although they are in the Northern Hemisphere they still breed as if they were still in the Southern, so the Cygnets were born in February time.

As you know our new sponsor for supplying our Bird and Badger food is Jacobi Jayne. They are trying out our site on a trial. If they find that they are getting sales through people linking from the site they will continue, so if any of you do order Bird Feed please give them a try. Free phone 0800 072 0130

Over the next few days you will see that our website has been revamped. The top header will still be flash, but changing to some of the Wildlife that we show, rather than attractions, many of which are not represented on our website. Some of the other pages will be showing various advertising so that we will be able to earn some income to be able site webcams into more locations and to keep this website continuing. Every time that you click onto one of the advertisement we will get a very small payment, not even a penny but with your help by clicking on the advertisements the Penny’s will we hope soon become POUNDS, DOLLARS AND EUROS.

We have got a couple of new additions coming to Denbury shortly. The first is a pair of Reindeer. At the moment the Buck, is in Velvet. As with Deer when they grow their antlers, they are covered in a hairy skin under which there are tiny blood vessels that feed the antlers whilst they are growing. It is very painful when a Deer knocks the growing antlers, so they are very careful to avoid knocking them against tree branches when they are wooded areas. I am not sure when the Velvet starts to shed. I have heard the Deer in our Woods rubbing their antlers against the trees when they are shedding the velvet, but I cant remember what time of year it is. When it is being shed it looks a bit gory as the blood vessels still have blood in them. Hopefully they will breed and we will Fawn in the Spring of next year.

The other addition is a pair of Black Swans Cygnets. Again I am not sure when they will be arriving, but they will need to be fully feathered first. It could be September time. We will also need to clip their wings to make sure that they do not fly away when we get them. They wont mate until they are two years old. I hadn’t really considered Swans for the Lake. It was only this weekend when we realised that we had been let down by the person who assured us that he could get the Canada Geese for us, that we looked at other options. After the two disasters with the Canada Geese this year with I don’t want wild Geese to breed on the Lake again. With the Swans they will soon follow feed so that they can be housed at night to keep them out of danger.

Hi I recently bought a squirrel box off you . Here are some pictures of squirrels feeding. Only the 1 squirrel so far. First time it’s taken food today. Kids have called it Rusty! Grant O’fee.

Still getting the Starlings!!! Julia.

We had Gordon the Goose working on the Lake this afternoon. Unfortunately it was a last minute decision to get it working, as I had a bit of trouble with him when I was getting it ready this morning. There was bad interference with the picture. I tried various things to get it right and had all but give up on it for the day. A small movement of the ariel put it right. Jack and Brian have done a good job as it works very well. For some reason the picture has a lot of blue in it, but it is only like it by the Lake, I will sort it out some how. I will let you know when we try it out again. The batteries that work the camera and wireless connection will last for maybe five hours, so as soon as I am sure that every thing is alright, I will tie Gordon somewhere on the bank of a night time. It is an infra red camera that will be able to see in the dark as the other Farm cameras can.

As Swallows return to the nest of a night and and when it is raining for a while after they have fledged I will keep the camera going for a while longer. We have found another Swallows nest that will be easy to put the camera on to. There are a couple of eggs in it at the moment, so I would expect a couple more to be laid before the Swallows start to incubate them.

We put in a new branch into the Lake in the hope that the Kingfishers will start to use it as the original branch. It is sited close to the Island where have seem them land on the plants on the Island.
